She Was Already a Nurse. Then Skin Became More Than an Interest.
Denise Delgado wasn’t looking for a way out of healthcare. She was curious about another part of it.
An Interest Worth Following
By the time Denise Delgado began exploring medical aesthetics, she already knew what it meant to care for patients.
As a Registered Nurse, she had worked in a profession built around clinical responsibility, patient safety and judgement. But another area of healthcare had increasingly captured her attention: dermatology.
At first, it was simply an interest. Eventually, Denise decided to see where it might lead.
“I am a Registered Nurse that is passionate in the world of dermatology and I wanted to explore.”
Medical aesthetics gave that curiosity a practical direction. Denise wasn’t trying to erase what she had already built as a nurse. She wanted to find out what else she could build from it.
Doing that required something experienced professionals don’t always find comfortable.
She had to become a beginner again.
Knowing Healthcare Didn’t Mean Knowing Aesthetics
Denise arrived with advantages.
She understood patients. She understood why protocols matter. She was accustomed to working in environments where safety isn’t negotiable.
But she didn’t yet know medical aesthetics.
The treatments were new. So were the techniques. And experience in one clinical field didn’t remove the need to learn another properly.
Denise began the Medical Aesthetics Program at La Vie Academy with the theory portion online before coming in for her hands-on practicum. For a working healthcare professional, it meant the classroom didn’t require her to abandon the career she already had.
Then came the part that couldn’t be learned from a screen.
During practicum, Denise worked with instructors Krista and Charlene, putting the theory into practice and receiving feedback as she learned.
“My experience during training at La Vie Academy was convenient doing the theory portion online and in-person practicum. My instructors Krista and Charlene were amazing, patient and knowledgeable!”
What stayed with her wasn’t only a particular treatment or technique.
It was learning how to be corrected.
The Discipline of Being New at Something
There is a peculiar challenge in learning a new profession when you’re already experienced in another.
You know enough to understand the importance of getting things right. You also have to be comfortable admitting what you don’t yet know.
Denise kept returning to two things during her training: safety and feedback.
“What I found valuable was the importance of safety and being open-minded to feedback, as it helped me be successful.”
That approach allowed her nursing experience to remain useful without allowing it to become a shortcut.
Patient care wasn’t new.
Clinical responsibility wasn’t new.
The work in front of her was.
So Denise listened, practised and adjusted.
Gradually, something that had begun as professional curiosity became something she could actually do.
From Interest to Practice
After completing the program, Denise joined Ciao Bella Advanced Aesthetics in Grande Prairie as an aesthetician.
The significance isn’t that she left nursing behind.
She didn’t.
It’s that an interest she once observed from the edges of her existing profession now has a place within her working life.
“La Vie Academy helped me refine and be confident with skills in the aesthetic industry. I am now working as an aesthetician at Ciao Bella Advanced Aesthetics in Grande Prairie and am excited to continue on this new journey!”
Career changes are often described as reinventions, as though becoming something new requires discarding whatever came before.
Denise’s story is quieter than that.
She was a nurse before she became interested in medical aesthetics. Her understanding of patients, safety and clinical responsibility came with her. What she needed were the skills specific to a different kind of practice—and the willingness to learn them.
An interest in dermatology led her to medical aesthetics. Medical aesthetics led her back into the unfamiliar position of being a student. And today, that same interest follows her into work at Ciao Bella.
She didn’t start over.
She gave something she was already curious about somewhere to go.
