Building Something Close to Home
For Charlene Lewis, studying medical aesthetics was never just about learning treatments.
From the beginning, she had a larger goal in mind: opening a clinic of her own.
She wanted to create a space where clients could receive professional skincare treatments in a welcoming environment, while building a business rooted in the community she knew best. The ambition wasn’t simply to enter the industry. It was to contribute to it on her own terms.
Preparing for More Than a Job
Turning that vision into reality meant developing more than technical skills.
During her Medical Aesthetics training at La Vie Academy, Charlene built her understanding of skin health, client consultations, treatment protocols, and clinical practice. The hybrid format allowed her to study independently before applying what she learned during hands-on training.
She credits the people who guided her along the way as an important part of that experience.
“La Vie Academy provided me with the knowledge, hands-on training, and confidence needed to begin my journey in medical aesthetics. Charlene was my hands-on instructor and Krista was my online coach both were amazing. You girls rock!”
From Vision to Business
After graduating, Charlene took the next step she had been working toward.
She opened La Fleur Medi Spa in Fleur de Lys, Newfoundland and Labrador, creating the business she had envisioned while still a student.
For many graduates, success begins with joining an established clinic. Charlene chose a different route. She built one.
Today, she continues growing her client base while expanding her knowledge and refining her skills approaching business ownership as something that evolves alongside professional development.
Looking Ahead
Charlene sees education as an ongoing part of her career, not something that ended with graduation.
She continues learning while growing La Fleur Medi Spa, with plans to expand the business over time.
Her advice to future students reflects the same mindset.
“Take advantage of every learning opportunity and practice as much as possible. Ask questions, stay curious, and continue learning even after graduation. Building confidence takes time, but the knowledge and skills you gain through your training will help you succeed.”
Charlene’s story is ultimately about following through on an idea.
She imagined opening a clinic in her community.
Today, that clinic has a name, a front door, and clients who know it as La Fleur Medi Spa.
